The run up the tidal Thames from Limehouse to Teddington was one of the highlights of the summer's cruising in 2006. Steering a narrowboat around the canals, you become used to the feeling of being one of the largest boats around, but out on the Thames you are playing with the big boys. The reward is situations like this, heading for one of the most famous bridges in the world, in your own boat.
